We stayed for 3 nights. Easily able to access bikes and beach. We took a Duffie “cruise” one evening - a 3 block walk.
The place is dated- you will either find it charming or funky or old.

No air conditioning! 3 doorknobs fell off in hand the first day. Parking was a nightmare. Not as close to a beach as expected. Bathroom very small. Property was clean, and essentials provided. Would probably recommend paying a little more and having a newer rental. We were to report any damage found first day, but phone call not returned.

The cottage location was perfect, 2 minutes to the marina side and 5 minutes to the beach. You would be silly to go anywhere but here if are wanting to visit Balboa. Valeries Vacation Rental meant everything in her discription and the pictures are spot on! It was a memorable vacation!

The property was rundown not vintage. By far the most rundown property on the street ! The pictures and ad are very deceiving. We would not stay there again, we had a neighbor come over and see how bad it was.

The Cottage was located in the best place possible. The best of both worlds. Right between Balboa and Newport. It was clean, sweet and nostalgic.Parking is a bit of a challenge. Loved being so close to the beach.

Location was great could walk to everything, beach was literally a 2 min walk. We found a parking spot right out front and never moved our car til we left. Had everything we needed. Val was very helpful and super nice. Would stay here again!

We enjoyed our stay at this quaint clean cottage. I'm glad we didn't have a car as parking would have been difficult. However, it was close to all the places we intended to visit during our stay.

This place is a perfect getaway for a couple or family of 3 or 4. If you're looking for a place to party though, this isn't it.
It's very small but doesn't seem cramped. It's an old building and very well kept. It's not as fancy to look at as other places, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with all the cooking and dining utensils we needed to make our own dinners. Extra bed linens and towels were provided as well.
This place is right in the middle of everything and you can walk to restaurants, shops, the beach, and the ferry to take you to Balboa Island where you can walk to more restaurants and shops. Or you can walk to a bike rental place and bike everywhere!
We loved this place and will consider a return.
The only hiccup we experienced was checking in. Apparently, there are two different ways of obtaining the key. One was emailed to us twice but after an hour of standing outside the door with all of our stuff, I was able to contact the owner and obtained the key the second way.
Overall you cannot go wrong with renting this property if you're looking for a nice little getaway.

Our stay was wonderful. The cottage is small but very cute and cozy! It is very close to the Balboa Fun Zone and ferry so we did not need to use our car. The cottage is very clean and fully supplied with dishes, pots and pans and even a Keurig. The refrigerator is full size and there is ample hot water. My husband and I had a wonderful short get away. The house was close to everything! We didn't need a rental car as we walked mostly. We did use Uber a few times bit we didn't have to go far to see beautiful sights such as Crystal Cove and Corona Del Mar State Park.

This house is the perfect beach shack. The house is for the most part an original beach bungalow so some of the windows are challenging to open and close but nothing major. The only downside to this house is the parking situation. The listing says you can park in back but the neighbor behind disputes this and threatens to call parking enforcement. I just decided to park in the street and leave my car. The house is in such a great location it was easy to walk or Uber (parking is horrible throughout Newport so unless you are leaving the area you will have problems parking everywhere) and just leave my car so it was not a big deal but if you need to come and go in your own car a lot this could be an issue for you. I would definitely stay here again!

Bed was terribly uncomfortable and definetly not a queen. Couch was also uncomfortable. Bathroom was very tiny and shabby. The patio was full of weeds. The back door knob was loose. Was not as close to the beach as they state although wasn’t a long walk.

We had a wonderful time staying at SunSplash Cottage. We have family that live nearby and it was so nice to have our own place to go to after a day of adventures to unwind. Very comfortable bed and nice living area. Cute kitchen with everything you need.

A few areas for improvement: Parking was a bit troublesome (here was no way we could park in the back as directed), the bedroom door handle broke, the front door handle was hard to operate and I had to open the front door from the inside by reaching over the top of the bottom panel and using the key, and the key was not where we were instructed to look. Also, the bed seemed to be a full not a queen as advertised.

Overall, it was great. An unpretentious cottage walking distance to the beach. We had a wonderful stay at the SunSplash Cottage! Check in and out was easy and the home was spotless. There was a basket of snacks on the counter to welcome us and there were beach towels provided. It was only a couple blocks walk to the beach and one block to the ferry to Balboa Island. We really enjoyed the location and would stay again.
